Kerry Robinson RN, BA (Hons)

Kerry Robinson RN, BA (Hons), is one of the senior IBD Clinical nurse specialists at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Kerry qualified in 1994 and has since worked in various acute care settings. She developed an interest in IBD in her previous role as a Colorectal and Stoma Care nurse. Kerry has been an IBD Clinical nurse specialist at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital since 2003, where she has led many of the nursing audits and service developments within the department.

During 2006/7 Kerry took a career break and worked as a Stoma Care nurse in Auckland, New Zealand. She became a registered non-medical prescriber in 2008. Kerry has previously chaired the Yorkshire and the Humber IBD nurse forum and has represented the group at the RCN central committee. Kerry was a member of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guideline Development Group for the management of ulcerative colitis in 2013.

Bev Fieldsend RGN, BA (Hons)

Bev Fieldsend RGN, BA (Hons), is one of the senior IBD Clinical nurse specialists at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  Bev qualified as a Registered General Nurse from Rotherham School of Nursing in 1987 and started work as a Staff Nurse in the operating theatres at the Northern General Hospital.  She gained experience in the operating theatres throughout the Sheffield Hospitals and became a theatre sister in 1991; specialising in colorectal surgery, during which time she developed her interest in IBD, and was appointed as an IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist in 2005.

Bev completed a degree in Health and Social Care in 2008, including a module in IBD at Bradford University. Since becoming an IBD Specialist Nurse, Bev has seen huge changes in the speciality, including the appointment of many more nurses countrywide to support those with IBD and a greater number of treatment options becoming available.  She now works part-time.

Alison Wright RN, BSc (Hons)

Alison Wright RN, BSc (Hons), is one of the senior IBD Clinical nurse specialists at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  Alison qualified as a nurse in 2000, and has worked within the gastroenterology setting since. She worked on the acute gastroenterology ward as a senior staff nurse caring for in-patients with IBD. During this time she developed an interest and close working relationship with the IBD team.

Alison has been an IBD specialist nurse since 2005, working at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.  She qualified as an Independent non-medical prescriber in 2008 and undertakes independent nurse led clinics.

Laura MarshallRGN, BMedSci

Laura Marshall RGN, BMedSci, is one of the senior IBD Clinical nurse specialists at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  Laura completed her nurse training within STH in 1997, and went on to work as a qualified nurse in acute gastroenterology followed by the Clinical Investigation Unit, where she spent much of her time working in endoscopy. After leaving STH in 2006 Laura expanded her nursing experience by working as a practice nurse.  She then moved with her family to France and after taking on the challenge of learning a new language was able to continue her nursing career in France working as a nurse in a nursing home, then on a Neuro Rehabilitation ward and finally as a school nurse. 

After 7 years in France, she returned to gastroenterology and has been an IBD nurse specialist for the last 5 years. Laura has successfully completed the IBD Nurse course and more recently the Independent/supplementary prescribing course.

Jo ArmitageRN, BA (Hons)

Jo Armitage RN, BA (Hons), is one of the IBD Clinical nurse specialists at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Jo qualified as a nurse in 1999, after completing a post graduate diploma in Nursing. Since qualifying, Jo has worked predominantly in Gastroenterology. Jo was seconded to the role of IBD nurse in 2011, and was appointed as a permanent Band 6 IBD Clinical Nurse specialist in 2013. Jo was initially based at the Northern General Hospital, but now works at both NGH and RHH as part of the amalgamated IBD Nursing team. Jo works part-time and regularly attends IBD conferences as part of her on-going professional development.

Rebecca Campbell RN, BA (Hons)

Rebecca Campbell RN, BA (Hons), is one of the IBD Clinical nurse specialists at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Rebecca qualified in 2010 and worked for 8 years on a colorectal ward where she had the opportunity to work as a ward sister. Rebecca completed the Band 6 Development Programme in 2015. Rebecca completed the Teaching and Assessing course in 2016. This has allowed her to teach other members of staff key skills and sign off competencies, including central line management. Since joining the IBD team in 2018 she successfully completed the Management of IBD Disorders course at Salford University in 2019. Rebecca enjoys the chance to make a difference to patients' lives and be a part of such a fantastic and caring team.

Laura ThompsonRN, Advanced Diploma in Adult Nursing

Laura Thompson RN, Advanced Diploma in Adult Nursing, is one of the IBD Clinical nurse specialists at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Laura qualified in 2009 with an advanced nursing diploma in adult nursing. Laura worked on the Clinical Investigations Unit at the Hallamshire Hospital for 9 years caring for patients with IBD attending for day case treatments and inpatient care.

Laura took up post as an IBD clinical nurse specialist in 2018. She completed the Management of IBD Disorders course at Salford university in 2019, where her final presentation to complete the module was in Iron deficiency anaemia in IBD patients.

Mabel NalishuwaRN BA (Hons)

Mabel Nalishuwa RN BA (Hons), is one of the newly appointed IBD Clinical nurse specialists at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She stepped into her new role in 2020. Mabel qualified as registered nurse in 1994 at the University Teaching Hospital in Zambia where she worked for 3 years in various clinical areas. She then relocated to the UK to pursue her BA degree. She has since worked in acute medicine and gastroenterology. She developed an interest in IBD during her previous role as staff nurse on the gastro Clinical Investigations Unit where she worked for 9 years.

During her nursing career, Mabel has undertaken a number of extended roles which include mentorship, preceptorship, Tissue Viability link champion and IV medicines master trainer. These roles enabled her to support students and fellow staff in maintaining their competencies. Mabel is excited about her new role as IBD nurse and is looking forward to developing her skills by undertaking IBD course whilst working alongside the more experienced IBD team of nurses and doctors.
